5 Easy Ways to Improve Employee Morale without Breaking the Bank

Really Happy Employees

Remember the time when you were just stepping out into the workforce as a young and hopeful individual? All you wanted was to start building your career in an environment where people were friendly, work was fun, and opportunities were endless.

Well, now that you are more experienced and have been in the workforce for many years, keep in mind that your young workers are also looking for the same things that you were a couple years back. When your staff members are happy and morale is high, their productivity increases tremendously and it also reaffirms their loyalty to your organisation.

One of the hardest things to do as a senior level manager, team leader, CEO, MD or “the Boss”, is to keep up the morale of your employees. Don’t worry…we have a couple of solutions to help you create a happier, healthier and more productive workforce!

Have fun, make the office fun

Daily routine is absolutely great for keeping your organisation operating smoothly but it could also become mundane and pretty boring for your employees. Organising weekly activities like an afternoon of board games or scavenger hunts around the city is a great way to have some fun. Give them some time to take a break and they will feel like they belong in a fun and dynamic place instead of a plain old boring office.

Creatively celebrate achievements

Monetary incentives are great but at the end of the day, money still won’t make your employees feel like they enjoy what they do. It only makes them mindlessly work for what they need. So, instead of giving them money as a reward, why don’t you try something that they would appreciate much more?

One of the best incentives we have seen is when employers allow their workers to work from home once a week. It’s especially great for working parents as they can spend more time with their children while still being able to accomplish the same amount of work in a day. You could even offer to pay for their lunch or dinner with their partner or friends.

Whilst money can be easily spent and forgotten, these little experiences will enrich their lives for a long time. They will feel more appreciated and strive to do more for the company that has taken care of them.

Listen and engage

Nothing feels better to a person than the feeling of being heard. Everyone loves to be heard and it’s only natural for us to communicate with each other.

Yes, we understand that you are extremely busy with work but always take a little time every single day to have a chat with your employees. They will feel that their opinions matter and their individuality is appreciated within the company.

When they feel valued, the will feel like they are part of something bigger than themselves and when they do, you will see that their loyalty increases and they will be willing to go the extra mile for you.

And don’t just talk about work! Casual chit-chat is one of the best ways to get to know your employees better. Find out what is going on in their lives and show genuine excitement towards what they are saying.

Invest in their future

One of the top reasons employees leave a company is because they don’t feel like there is room for any growth. Create development and training opportunities for them and offer to pay their tickets to local conferences or workshops.

You can also take it a step further by bringing in industry experts or workforce coaching and counselling gurus to help them with self-development.

Always remember that nobody wants to be stuck at a dead-end job that offers no opportunities. Keep your employees happy by helping them advance in work and life.

Treat employees like people

We fully understand that you pay your employees to work hard and fast but sometimes they need some care and love too. Simple gestures like sending flowers or a short text message when they are sick will make them feel very appreciated and missed at the office, and it wouldn’t cost you much at all!  Saying thank you is priceless and costs you nothing.
